Forklift propane tank recertification
I recertify steel and aluminum forklift cylinders at your warehouse or yard, so your tanks never leave the site. One $40 trip fee covers the whole fleet.
Why fleets do it on-site
Shipping forklift cylinders out means hazmat freight both ways and tanks out of service for a week or more. Buying new ones means scrapping steel that would usually pass. An on-site visual inspection costs $20 a tank and takes an afternoon.
Cylinders are due 12 years after they were made, then every 5 years after a visual recertification. When a fleet was bought all at once, the whole fleet tends to come due at once, and that’s the easiest visit to schedule.
How a fleet visit works
- Tell me how many cylinders you have, steel and aluminum, and roughly when they’re due. A photo of a few collars helps.
- I come to your site, inspect each cylinder to the CGA standard DOT requires, and stamp every one that passes.
- Cylinders that fail are marked and you get a written notice for each, at half price.

Fleet questions
Do you recertify aluminum forklift tanks?
Yes, steel and aluminum forklift cylinders are both on my list. Tell me the count of each when you book.
Do we have to take the forklifts out of service?
Only one cylinder at a time, for a few minutes. I inspect spares and empties first, then swap through the ones on the trucks.
What records do we get?
Each cylinder that passes is stamped with my requalifier ID, the month and year and an E. I keep the inspection record DOT requires for every cylinder, pass or fail, and any cylinder that fails gets a written notice explaining why.
We fill our own forklift tanks. Does that matter?
Yes. If you refill cylinders from your own bulk tank, you’re the one filling them, so it’s on you not to fill an out-of-date cylinder. A requalification visit brings the whole fleet current at once.
